NONPOINT's ROBB RIVERA: 'We've Definitely Had Our Share Of Dark Times'
February 17, 2015In The Now Magazine's Tom Lamb recently conducted an interview with NONPOINT drummer Robb Rivera. You can now watch the chat below.
Speaking about the high points of NONPOINT's career so far, Rivera said: "Our first record, [2000's] 'Statement', was a high point because of all the opportunity that was coming our way. We were the first band picked for Ozzfest in 2001, and that was just absolutely one of the best tours I've ever had in my career. But we also toured with DISTURBED on our fourth record. And, actually, in this lineup right now, we're on a high point right now. [Our latest single] 'Breaking Skin' is doing killer radio, great sales, attendance, selling merch… It feels like a band again. I mean, there's some low point that, I think, every band goes through. I don't think I know any band that really… Well, there's a couple that have been lucky that have had a high point their whole career. But there's a lot of bands that have been through that dark time, and we've definitely had our share of dark times. But Elias [Soriano, vocals] and myself have made a pact that, it doesn't matter when the dark comes, there's always a light at the end."
He continued: "The high point, honestly, after all I mentioned, is the fact we're still here, and I'm still making a living doing this. I have not had a job outside of NONPOINT since the day I signed my first contract. So that's s high point — that I've been able to actually say, I make a living doing what I really want to do."
NONPOINT's eighth studio album, "The Return", sold 8,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 39 on The Billboard 200 chart.
"The Return" was released on September 30, 2014 via Razor & Tie (one day earlier internationally via Metal Blade Records). The CD was recorded in February 2014 at Groovemaster Studios with Grammy Award-nominated producer Johnny K (DISTURBED, STAIND, MEGADETH) and engineer Daniel Salcido. It marked their second collaboration together.
